Taylor Cox is Union Catholic’s Union County Conference Female Athlete of the Week.
Cox, a junior, burned up the track again at the State Non-Public A Championships last Friday at the Bennett Center in Toms River.
Cox, the state leader in the hurdles at 7.82 and the defending Meet of Champions winner in the event, took down one of the biggest records possible when she ran 7.84 in the hurdles to break the All Groups meet record (all groups combined) of 7.86 set by the legendary Sydney McLaughlin of UC in 2015. Cox also won the 55 dash in 7.02 to break the Non-Public A meet record. Led by Cox, Union Catholic captured its state record ninth straight state title.
In addition to her individual accomplishments, Cox also split 24.75 on the anchor leg of th 4×200-meter relay to stop the clock at 1:38.03 to place fourth at the prestigious Millrose Games at the NY Armory . That time shattered the state record of 1:38.60 that the Vikings set when they placed fourth at the New Balance Nationals last March in Boston.
