Swimming history was made on Sunday at Rutgers.
For the first time ever, the Summit girls swim team – ranked No. 6 in the NJ.com Top 20 – garnered the prestigious Union County Championship trophy.
Behind two event victories, four second-place finishes, and a trio of third-place nods, the Hilltoppers outpaced No. 7 Westfield in an epic showdown in a 390.5 to 375 win over the reigning champs.
“This means so much to us, but also to the entire Summit swimming community,” Summit coach Erin Fogarty said, who is in her sixth season at the helm.
“Our seniors were awesome. They really spear-headed how we attack this county meet, and because of that we are county champions. I am so proud of them.”
Junior Sidney Arcella paced Summit with a pair of individual wins in her events.
The All-State superstar churned out a 1:49.52 in the 200 freestyle, and then won the 100 freestyle with a 50.84 clip.
“Sidney is amazing. Watching her on her turns is where she really wins these races. She is so gifted and has been so fun to coach. She is the most kind and humble person you could coach,” Fogarty said.

Arcella also helped the Hilltoppers place second in each of the 200 medley relay (1:51.19) and 400 FR (3:38.55).
In the 200 MR, she was joined by Molly Fagan, Juliet Ho, and Juliet Webb.
In the 400 FR, Arcella anchored the unit at 51.21 alongside Ella Callahan, Grace Collins, and Molly Fagan.
“It’s super exciting to win our first county meet with this team. We needed every single person today to get those points and I am so proud of all of us,” Arcella said.
“This was an incredible experience.”
Summit also cranked a second-place post in the 200 FR (1:43.24) from Juliet Ho, Grace Collins, Ella Callahan, and Juliet Webb.
Molly Fagan tabbed second place in the backstroke at 1:00.12.
Summit went for third place in the 500 free at 5:19.98 from Collins, in the 200 IM at 2:12.82 from Ho, and in the 50 free at 25.25 from Webb.

Clare Logan, the reigning NJ.com Swimmer of the Year, won the 50 free at 23.57 and the 100 back at 54.98.
The Blue Devils went for gold in all three relays, too.
In the 200 MR, Westfield saw Logan, Emily Constable, Emily Kapuscinski, and Isabella Giacobbe clock out at 1:47.80 for the win.
Westfield then won the 200 FR at 1:39.77 from Jane Kavanagh, Ava Contract, Brooke McAndrew, and Logan.
In the 400 FR, the Blue Devils sprinted to a 3:35.08 win from Giacobbe, Constable, McAndrew, and Kavanagh.
Constable won the breaststroke again, timing out at 1:04.50.

Sherratt won both of her individual events, muscling a 2:06.36 touch-out in the 200 IM and a 5:03.27 in the 500 freestyle.
“Billie is a tremendous swimmer. We think she can post a Top 3 finish in any event. We’re proud of her for her performance today,” SPF coach Jess Hulnik said.
Kent Place rattled home 223.5 points for fourth place. Liv Minton went for second place in the 100 fly at 58.10 and Margot Callahan placed second in the breaststroke at 1:10.93.
Gov. Livingston rounded out the Top 5 with 217.5 points. Sophie Taskila went for third place in the 100 back at 1:02.47.
GL’s 200 freestyle relay placed third at 1:44.68 from Nia Joseph, Nina Frolov, Pippa Raaijmakers, and Anna Frolov.
