Eight seconds into Wednesday afternoon’s NJSIAA North Jersey, Group 2 sectional final tilt, Mendham had a clean look on goal after winning the opening faceoff.
But starting with a save by Caitlin Walsh – and ending in a relentless barrage of offense that never seemed to end in the first half– Summit took control of the game from there.
Scoring six goals in under 10 minutes of play, top-seeded Summit – No. 2 in the NJ.com Top 20 – built enough of a lead to weather a second half surge from third-seeded Mendham, 13-9, in Summit. The Hilltoppers captured their second straight sectional title with the result.
