Player of the year: So many times, a senior will take a step or two back after posting a strong junior season.
Not Ethan Frohman.
The Gov. Livingston southpaw, NJ.com’s Union County Conference Player of the Year, saw his results jump in every category this spring after an All-County campaign in 2014.
Frohman went 10-2 after going 7-2 last year. His ERA shrunk, going from 1.70 to 1.35, and he threw 72 2/3 innings in 2015, 23 more than the season before. His strikeout total jumped to 101 this year after just 53 last season, and his walks shrunk, going from 17 to 15.
Oh, and the Highlanders’ final result as a team made a pretty big improvement as well, going from a team bounced in the sectional quarterfinals in 2014 to, thanks in large part to Frohman, the third state championship in school history this spring.
Frohman, who also had 26 RBI and 24 runs at the plate for the Highlanders this spring, pitched GL into its third Group 2 state final appearance in the last 10 years. He twirled a three-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking two, as the Highlanders knocked off reigning Group 2 champion Buena in the state semifinals. Frohman then scored two runs and an RBI to help GL down Bernards in the state final.
