Billy Carvalho – Roselle Catholic High School: Billy has been the backbone for the soccer team over the past few years. Billy was voted Top Defender for the UCC Conference last year by the NJ.com poll. While anchoring the defense, the senior captain has also provided assistance to the Lions offense. In a big win for the team over Bloomfield Tech last week, he had a pair of integral assists on Senior Day. In a conference match against Linden last week, Billy also provided an assist on the day, bringing him to a total of seven assists along with a goal on the season, even though he is primarily focused on the defensive end.
Jayla Skipper-Green – Roselle Catholic High School: Jayla has stepped up as a leader both on and off the court for the girl’s volleyball team. The junior captain specializes in her serves and bumps for teammates scoring opportunities. Last week, Jayla recorded seven digs, five kills, 30 assists, and four aces in conference matches against Rahway and Scotch Plains. In big wins for the Lady Lions over Kent Place and Elizabeth, Jayla racked up 12 assists with three aces and 13 assists with four aces in those respective games. On the season, Jayla has accumulated 16 kills, 40 digs, 105 assists, and 21 aces as of today.
Justin Arnold – Roselle Park High School: Justin is a three-sport athlete at RPHS. The senior excels in football, wrestling, and track. This football season Justin is an offensive and defensive lineman recording 45 total tackles, one sack and one forced fumble. Justin has also advanced to the Meet of Champions the past two years in the discus event.
Natasia Ortiz – Roselle Park High School: Natasia is a captain for the varsity girl’s soccer team. This past week the senior led the squad from her central defender spot to two shutouts. She also scored one goal helping the team improve to 8-5-1 and 5-0 in the conference. Natasia is an Honor Student at RPHS as well as a member of the track team, National Honor Society, and Student Council.
John Murphy – Scotch Plains: In a 5-0 win over Union on Tuesday, John led the offense with two assists and a goal for the boy’s soccer team. During the county quarterfinal against Plainfield, the junior had two goals to lead the Raiders to a 5-1 win. In both contests, John was the key part of the offense. For the season, John has 13 goals and five assists.
