Emily Archer – Oak Knoll: Emily is NJ.com’s Union County Conference girls basketball player of the week! The team captain has been a force for the Royals this year with 14.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season. Emily was at her best this past week with 20.5 points and 3.5 steals per game for Oak Knoll, which improved to 8-3. The senior will continue her basketball career at Carnegie Mellon next year.
Ariana Russo – Oak Knoll: Ariana had her best 100 back time this year 1:00.35 at counties for 6th place finish. The senior also had a 3rd place finish with the 200 medley relay at counties (Meet of Champions (MOC) time), 5th place with 200 free relay at counties (MOC time). The team captain is one of the only swimmers to make it to 2017 MOCs as a non-club swimmer.
Parv Patel – Roselle Park: As a Junior, Parv has been a member of the varsity bowling team for three years. This year his team has voted him captain because of his experience and leadership skills. Parv is a quiet leader. Even though you will never witness him yelling for the team, he is always the first one to congratulate a varsity or JV bowler on a great job. At the same time, he is the first one to offer assistance if someone is struggling during a match or game. He has a positive outlook during all of the teams matches and his words of encouragement keep the team going each match. Besides being there to support the team with his words, he does so with his actions. There has been a few times where the game is decided on Parv in the tenth frame. As a 174 average, Parv holds the position of anchor for the team. This position holds a tremendous amount of responsibility because if the score is close, this bowler has to take it upon himself to mark in order to pick up the victory. Parv’s skills were tested a few times in this aspect and each time, Parv has risen to the occasion and brought his team to a victory. With a very young team, Parv’s guidance is greatly appreciated by his fellow team mates as well as the coaching staff.
Lucy Rennar – Roselle Park: The girls basketball athlete of the week is point guard Lucy Rennar. The junior captain filled the stat sheet, scoring 6 points per game, grabbing 4 rebounds per game, handing out 3 assists per game, and anchored the defense with 5 steals per game.
CJ Duffy – Westfield: CJ is a junior and an assistant captain for the ice hockey team. He has 275 saves on 302 shots which gives him a .910 save percentage. He has nine wins and two shutouts this season. He was named UCIAC MVP with 32 saves on 34 shots vs. Summit in the tournament final.
Molly Ryan – Westfield: Molly is averaging 13.2 points and 5.1 steals per game. She had a season high 26 points vs. Plainfield and 2018 best 10 steals vs Scotch Plains-Fanwood. The senior has 238 career takeaways to date and 101 threes. She has committed to Tufts University.
