The 200 free relay was the big risk.

In the anticipated battle between Westfield boys swimming, No. 1 in the NJ.com Top 20, and No. 2 Christian Brothers Academy, the relay proved to be the key in Westfield’s 98-72 win on Wednesday evening.

“We were focusing on our relays, trying to cater to that,” senior captain Griff Morgan said. “We have a lot of people who can step up and I think we did that today.”

Added fellow senior captain Aedan Collins: “It’s definitely exciting. (Beating them) last year was kind of a huge surprise, so to be able to beat them again this year is great.”

It’s the second straight season Westfield has beaten CBA, after handing CBA its first loss to an NJSIAA opponent since 2009 with a 106-64 win last year.
