Two of the Mid-State 38 Conference’s three most successful clubs a year ago reside in the Watchung Division, as North 2 Group V champion Westfield looks to follow up its undefeated season, while last year’s N2V semifinalists Ridge hopes to take the next step.
Elizabeth, Union and Linden are the non-Courier-News area clubs in the division, with the Minutemen the only 2015 playoff team of the trio. While Elizabeth rarely has had to deal with a subpar season, it does feature a new head coach, as does Plainfield and Watchung Hills, a couple of programs looking to turn things around. Both those clubs have upside, and if they can get things headed in the right direction, it could make for an exciting chase for the conference title in what’s shaping up to be an ultra-competitive division.
