The Westfield High School boys track and field team won its second sectional title in a row and sixth overall at the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 Sectionals Championships on Saturday at Ridge High School.
The Blue Devils finished with 125 points. Piscataway was second (84) and Ridge third (61). Westfield advanced 14 athletes to the Group 4 Championships.
“It takes a complete track and field team to win a state sectional meet and to amass 125 points and to win the meet by 40 really shows how deep our team is this year,” said Westfield head coach Christopher Tafelski.
“We got big points from our first/second/third-place finishers, but we also racked up a lot of points with a bunch of guys picking up fourth, fifth and sixth-place spots. The depth is really going to be a difference maker for us going into the Group 4 Championship meet this weekend,” he said.
