Oratory junior Henry Bolster stood alone Wednesday.
Bolster shot an even-par 71, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, 538-yard 12th hole, to finished three strokes ahead of Westfield senior captain James Dunn (3-over 74) to win individual medalist honors at the UCIAC Tournament at Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood Jake Todaro (75) finished alone in third and there was a three-way tie for fourth (77): Westfield senior Ethan Delforte, Kevin Kronert of New Providence, and Cranford senior Brandon Quach.
Westfield (308) won the team title, winning by eight strokes over rival Oratory (316). Oratory has swept both dual matches against the Blue Devils this season, but Westfield has responded in kind, winning the UCC Watchung Division title by six strokes on April 23 plus today’s triumph.
“The team played outstanding and we are very honored to win the UCIAC, which has been held at Echo Lake for 60 years since 1964. We were led by James (Dunn), who made a critical birdie on the fifth hole after making a double bogey on the fourth,” said Westfield head coach Ryan Daly. “That really settled him down and he was steady the rest of the way to a score of 74. Senior Ethan Delforte fired a 77 and junior Toby Zippler had a 78. Both are former baseball players and now are varsity starters for golf, who made incredible UCIAC debuts.”
10 schools (67 players) competed on the par-71, 6,566-yard layout.
