Westfield’s current eight-game winning streak began April 4 with a 5-3 victory over lacrosse archrival Summit.
Ultimately, that result – along with excellent play thereafter – gives the Blue Devils the top seed for the 21st Union County Tournament, and five-time reigning champion Summit the No. 2 position.

Play gets underway Thursday with a preliminary-round clash between ninth-seeded Oratory and eighth-seeded Gov. Livingston in Berkeley Heights. The first round will be Saturday, with the Dayton/Oratory winner traveling to fifth-seeded Johnson, and seventh-seeded Cranford playing at sixth-seeded Gov. Livingston. The quarterfinals are May 6 at the fields of the higher seeds.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood is the No. 3 seed, and New Providence the No. 4 seed.
Westfield (8-1), ranked No. 4 in the NJ.com, and No. 10 Summit (8-2) earn byes until the May 9 semifinals, played as a doubleheader at Johnson. The championship is set for May 11 at Johnson with a faceoff time scheduled for 7 p.m.
Summit defeated Westfield last year, 10-9, for its fifth straight title and 15th overall. Westfield has five championships, its last coming in 2017.
